Technical specifications

The technical information contained in these pages will help you to configure devices and software for their use with Unidata services. Normally this information is provided to the customer when services are activated, or automatically configured by our technicians.

DNS

DNS

The DNS is the core system serving to translate domain names (e.g. www.unidata.it) into IP addresses (e.g. 217.72.103.115) so that you can use the Internet without having to remember the IP address of each site. Normally you have to configure your computer with two IP addresses of your ISP’s DNS servers, which in the case of Unidata are:

195.94.143.19
195.94.182.3
Should you encounter problems using the aforementioned DNSs, for diagnostic purposes it may be useful to try to use public servers (e.g. Google DNS at the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

Email

To use email services with the Unidata network, you need to configure your own mail client (e.g. Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook) based on your specific situation.

Email box and Unified connectivity

Replace domainname with the name of your own mail domain (e.g. if your email is mario.rossi@uni.net the domainname will be uni.net):

POP3 server: pop.domainname

Server IMAP: imap.domainname

SMTP servers smtp.domainname

Set SMTP authentication with same credentials used for incoming mail (POP3 / IMAP) using full email address as login (e.g. mario.rossi@uni.net), otherwise you will not be able to send mail.

Email box of other ISP and Unified connectivity

Example with own e-mail: mario.rossi@otherisp.it:

POP3 server: POP3 server of ISP hosting the mailbox (e.g. pop.otherisp.it)

IMAP server: IMAP server of the ISP hosting the mailbox (e.g. imap.otherisp.it)

SMTP server: SMTP server of the ISP hosting the mailbox (e.g. smtp.otherisp.it), setting SMTP authentication or relay.uni.it (without authentication)

relay.uni.it is an outgoing mail server made available by Unidata to its customers who have problems sending e-mails with the ISP’s SMTP transmission service hosting the email box.

Unidata email box and connectivity with another ISP

Replace domainname with the name of your own mail domain (e.g. if your email is mario.rossi@uni.net the domainname will be uni.net):

POP3 server: pop.domainname

Server IMAP: imap.domainname

SMTP server: smtp.domainname or SMTP server of the ISP providing connectivity (e.g. smtp.otherisp.it )

If you choose to use the Unidata SMTP server, you need to set up SMTP authentication with the same credentials used for incoming mail (POP3 / IMAP) using the full email address as login (e.g. mario.rossi@uni.net), otherwise you will not be able to send mail.

VoIP telephony

Configuring SIP client

If you do not have a pre-configured Unidata VoIP device (e.g. router or other CPE) and if you have your VoIP login details, you can configure the SIP client (e.g. Linphone) with these parameters:

sip.uni.it (SIP Server)

sip.uni.it (Realm / Proxy)

Unidata does need to use the STUN service
